New Badge Machine and 50mm Badges

Exciting news at the SB HQ, we’ve been working on this for the last few weeks.

When springs started snapping on the old machine it was definitely time for a change. We’ve got a new badge machine and now we can also make 50mm badges. There’s new category types, so you can peep at the new custom listings of 25mm badges or magnets LINK or the 50mm badges or magnets LINK. Still, it’s surprising to see how large the new badges are compared to our usual smaller size.

North Dublin Wildcats Badges

We’ve worked with the North Dublin Wildcats LINK before and we were delighted when they contacted us looking for more badges. They qualified for the International Cheer Union Championship in the US and are heading off in a couple of weeks. Apart from the ICU, they’re also heading off to Florida for the USASF Dance competition too. They’ll also be on the telly on TV3′s Morning Show later today.

Best of luck to the team and Coach Hayden in the competition.

At the Spike Badges HQ, we’re gearing up for the most romantic holiday of the year. Yup, that’s right, Valentine’s Day. It’s only a small selection at present but I’m hoping to add more badges the closer we get to Valentine’s Day.

You can check out the selection on the Valentine’s Day category.

Happy Christmas

‘Tis Christmas Eve and nothing was stirring, not even a mouse…
But…all the minions in the HQ were frantically wrapping presents ahead of Santy’s arrival.

This Christmas will be the usual of turkey and ham. Also many card games and rounds of Monopoly in those disappearing days between Christmas and New Year. A new addition to the entertainment is cooking up food à la Come Dine With Me. Let’s hope it all works out well.
Catch you in 2013!

Custom Badges For Depaul Ireland

Here at the Spike Badges HQ, we were recently contacted by Depaul Ireland to make a large quantity of custom badges ahead of Electric Picnic. The badges were made to the backdrop of a Vampire Diaries marathon.

This will be Depaul Ireland’s fifth year at Electric Picnic. Over the last four years, professional artists have worked alongside people experiencing homelessness to create the ‘Life’s No Picnic On The Streets‘ exhibition at Mindfield in Electric Picnic.

One installation which has caught my eye is the ‘Dear Me’ exhibit. Under a sycamore tree, users of Depaul’s services has letters written by them ten years ago and ten years into the future. These letters are crafted into fabric flowers and planted at its base Festival goers can write their own ‘Dear Me’ letters.

Other installations include ’13.raw’ photographic exhibition; ‘No coins, just change’ and ‘Message in a Mixtape’ with old-style cassettes hidden throughout Electric Picnic for attendees to find.

So if you’re at Electric Picnic next week, call down to the exhibition in the Mindfield area.

New Badge Equipment

So recently at the Spike Badges HQ, I’ve invested in several pieces of technology.

The first little lovely is a Wacom Intuos 5 Touch Tablet. It’s now my fave piece of tech and  it speeds up the design process a lot more than with my MacBook Pro’s little trackpad. I’m normally an Illustrator aficionado but I’ve grown to respect Photoshop for it’s versatility because of the graphics tablet.

Next up was a laser printer. From now on all of our badges will be printed on a 160gsm card-stock, really it’s just really thick paper. This helps to give the pin badges a sharper finish.

And finally, a decent paper trimmer. The ability to accurately cut straight lines can never be overestimated. I had been using a craft knife and a ruler for a while but I sometimes ended up cutting into the pin badge print-outs.

So that’s all of the current new tech at the Spike Badges HQ.
